Connecticut Offers Shrive

Scranton, Pa., product Eric Shrive is thought to be one of the top offensive linemen for the Class of 2009 and has already started to compile an impressive list of offers early in recruiting. This past week Head Coach Randy Edsall traveled to meet with Shrive's head coach Mike DeAntona and extended a verbal scholarship offer to the young standout.

Eric Shrive is already approaching double-digit written offers and will surely gather many more after signing day passes several days from now and on Friday the 6-foot-7, 280-pound offensive tackle picked up another one from the Connecticut Huskies. We talked to Shrive to see how much he knew about the Connecticut program and while it wasn't much, he was impressed with the season they had.

"Head Coach (Randy) Edsall came in to meet with Coach DeAntona and told him I had a scholarship offer coming from Connecticut," Shrive said. "He told him that when he got back to school he'd be putting it in the mail after he watched some of my film down here."

"I don't know many specifics about Connecticut, but I was definitely impressed with the season that they had, especially since they hadn't done nearly as well the year before," Shrive explained. "I think Coach Edsall is really turning that program around and starting to build a tradition there, so I see them really going places over the next couple of years. I liked what I saw out of them this year and am definitely interested in learning more, so I may take an unofficial visit there soon. I just have to talk everything over with my parents and coach as it is tough scheduling all these schools right now."

Shrive does have a few visits already set in stone.

"I will definitely be going to Notre Dame for their junior day on February 24th," Shrive stated. "After that I'm traveling to Miami on my Easter vacation to see what they have to offer. In April, my coach, Hubie Graham and some others will be all be going out to Illinois with me for a visit too. Right now that is all I have lined up."

Shrive was named one of the Top 100 prospects in the country for this years' class.
