THE REGULAR signing period in college basketball begins today and Washington State has three openings available in its 2017 class. But the guess here is that new faces won't be announced by coach Ernie Kent until later in the process, which extends to May 17. Why? Two reasons.

KWINTIN WILLIAMS, a highly athletic junior college power forward, tells Cougfan.com that Washington State and coach Ernie Kent have been recruiting him hard since getting his academic house in order and that the Cougs and a Big 12 school are his leaders with less than a month to go before the regular letter-of-intent signing period begins.

With the high school season nearing the end, Scout's basketball recruiting team -- Evan Daniels, Brian Snow and Josh Gershon -- got together to update the 2017 top 100. While there was shuffling among the top five, it consists of the same five players. The list, however, does have a bunch of new names, including 18 newcomers.

Thin, mobile forward Isaiah Whaley carved out a niche for himself on the travel season the past few months. Although he must become far stronger, Whaley excels getting ahead on the break, is a solid finisher around the rim and blocks some shots. Long-term, he could become a major conference surprise.

A fast-rising power forward from James Worthy’s former high school, Isaiah Whaley emerged as a high-major prospect this season. The 6-9 junior wasn’t able to rally Gastonia (N.C.) Ashbrook to the state crown, but his long arms, mobility and impressive skill have garnered him significant momentum heading into spring.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- The 25th annual Kreul Classic has a strong field this year and with amount of talent in the state of Florida it was a no-brainer to stop by the Coral Springs City Gymnasium on Friday. Florida commit Keith Stone played well. Antonio Vrankovic showed why college coaches are intrigued and Maverick Rowan had a strong outing.
