The 2nd Quarter started with Reno breaking for a 33 yard touchdown run, continuing their dominance in the trenches. That extend the Wolfpack lead to 17-0.
The Rebels came to life on the very next possession. UNLV quarterback Kurt Palandech hit Jericho Flowers for a 35 yard reception to open up the UNR defense. Next during that same drive Palandech channeled his inner Barry Sanders by breaking 6 Reno tackles on his way to a 27 yard TD scamper.
UNR had an answer though. Again they were able to run the ball whenever and however they liked. They drove down the field with a time consuming 11 play drive and knocked in a 32 yard field goal from the left hash mark.
The Rebels quickly gave the ball back after another ineffectual 3 and out. UNR capitalized with yet another long drive, this time capped off by a shovel pass TD. Reno extends the lead 27-7.
A gutsy fourth down run let UNLV get into relative field goal range on the next Rebel set of downs and UNLV was able to drill the 47 yarder cutting their big deficit to 17.
