UNLV has filled their 2 coaching vancancies

UNLV moved fast to fill the two coaching positions that were made available when JD Williams and Jamie Christian left for Fresno St.

JD Williams and Jamie Christian decided to "go back home" to Fresno State, where they both played, and work under new Bulldog coach Jeff Tedford leaving UNLV head coach Tony Sanchez to find a new running backs and cornerbacks coach.

Early on Thursday, Todd Dewy of the RJ reported that former Purdue running backs coach DeAndre Smith, who also coached at UNLV in 2009, was hired in the same role with the Rebels. Smith was Syracuse running backs coach from 2013-15 prior to joining Purdue's staff last January. Smith also has coached running backs at New Mexico (2008-12), Illinois (2010-11), Miami, Ohio (2005-07) and Northern Illinois (2001-04).

I then learned late Thursday afternoon that former Arizona and Notre Dame cornerbacks coach David Lockwood will be the Rebels new cornerback coach. Lockwood also has had coaching stints at Memphis, Minnesota and West Virginia, where he played football.

More to come on these coaching hires as well as other possible hires and recruiting news in the upcoming weeks.
