As the 2nd quarter got underway, SDSU generated a stop and got the ball into Pumphrey's hands immediately. The Aztec all everything performer broke a 30 yard run and opened up the Aztec offense. SDSU was able to get down into the redzone, but ultimately the Cougar defense held them to a field goal.
Houston- 10 SDSU- 3
The next possession was dominated by the Aztec defense. They used pressure off the right edge to bring Ward down on a sack and forced the 3 and out. It set up a poor punt by the Cougar special teams unit and gave SDSU great field position. Pumphrey got loose again a couple times and was able to get the offense right back into the redzone. An Aztec penalty and another stout performance by the Cougar D held SDSU to another field goal.

So headed into the locker rooms, this one turned into a defensive stalemate. Donnel Pumphrey started slow, but he got his rushing totals up to 58 yards on 13 attempts.
