SDSU Uses Stifling Defense to Win Las Vegas Bowl

Houston stalled out once more after a pumped up SDSU defense forced the 3 and out to start the 4th quarter. The Aztec's sacked Ward and got the ball back right away. 

SDSU- 20  Houston- 10

As SDSU took over, it took one sweep play around the right hand side for 15 yards and Donnel Pumphrey became the all time rushing leader in college football history. 6,402 career yards for the local Las Vegan out of Canyon Springs high school. SDSU ended up punting, but history was made, making it the most important drive of the game.

Down only 10, Houston went uptempo, but they found themselves in a 4th and 1 situation and decided to go for it. SDSU was having none of it and they stuffed Ward as he ran the read option to the short side of the field.

In no time at all the Aztec's went play action and hit on a 28 yard TD pass on their first play of the drive. The Houston defense was expecting run all the way and they bit hard on the fake,

Adding insult to injury, the Aztec's punched in another rushing TD with under 2 minutes to play. SDSU with a statement victory over fellow non P5 team Houston. SDSU improves to 11-3 after winning a consecutive MWC title and dismantling Houston in the Las Vegas Bowl. The Aztec's finished with 4 interceptions for the game.
