UNLV Wins an Insane Double OT Game over AFA

Rebels Win Thriller 87-85

If you're a UNLV fan, this game took years off your life. This one had a little bit of everything. UNLV went into halftime up 8, but Air Force went on a 17-2 run in the 2nd half to complete a 27 point turnaround. Then, some of the worst shooting you will ever see transpired by both teams. As both UNLV and Air Force slogged down the stretch, it looked like the Rebels were going to lose, but Jovan Mooring had other ideas. The Chicago native jacked up a 30 footer and banked it in to force overtime. Improbable, desperate and ridiculous 3 point makes became the norm after that. In the first overtime session Jovan hit on yet another deep 3 in the waning seconds, this time nailing it in from the U on the court of the T&M from 35 feet. With the game seemingly over, Air Force banked in their own lest second heave from somewhere off Flamingo and Maryland Pkwy and a 2nd overtime was in the cards. After that, UNLV took control and was able to win a wild and discombobulated contest that will be remembered by Rebel fans for years to come.

Captain Clutch aka Jojo aka Jovan Mooring led all scorers with 30 points. The hero donning the white jersey, trimmed in scarlet also had 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Christian Jones played big, taking advantage of the Falcons' lack of size. The senior transfer had 15 points and 6 boards for the game. Tyrell Green had been slumping during conference play, but the senior broke out of his shooting woes late and tallied 12 points, with 6 rebounds of his own. The Canadian hit on a couple late three balls that kept UNLV in it. Uche Ofoegbu was yet another veteran that helped this young Rebel team squeak out this crazy win. The grad transfer with prior stops at SMU and San Francisco scored 10 points and also pulled down 4 off the glass.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, and this was definitely one of those instances. The Rebels shot 7-32 in the 2nd half and a lot of those were bunnies and layups. That being said, the Rebels locked down on defense the whole game and that was what kept them around to make those magical shots at the end of regulation and in OT. UNLV is back to .500 on the year at 10-10 and they are 3-4 in the MWC. They next have a two game road trip after holding serve at home. The winter trip to Laramie to face Wyoming is next and the Silicon Valley excursion to battle against woeful San Jose State is next Saturday. The Rebels already beat the Cowboys and it's not impossible that they go 2-0 on this trip.
