National Signing Day is a week away (Wednesday, February 1st) and UNLV is closing in on what will be their best overall class in school history, besting last years record setting class. Head coach Tony Sanchez and the Rebels football staff are doing all they can to secure their own recruits while still attempting to "flip" some recruits to the Rebels. The push the Rebels coaching staff is making is impressive and exciting as they look to close out a class that could be the first to play in the new Las Vegas Stadium in 2020 (in what would be their senior year) and workout, study, eat and prepare for life in the Ferrtitta Football Complex, which is scheduled to break ground in February and completed in August.
The Rebels already have their JUCO players who committed to UNLV this past December on campus and in the class and weight rooms. Those players are Linebacker Jacob Rominger, Defensive End Roger Mann, Safety Demitrious Gibbs and Center Sid Acosta. all of whom are exacted to have a major impact on the field right away in 2017. To go along with this group, here are the commitments that UNLV has secured verbally, some of which shut down their recruiting process already and will send over their National Letter of Intent on National Signing Day (NSD):
Marckell Grayson - QB - Desert Pines HS (Las Vegas, NV)
Tariq Hollandsworth - RB - Sacramento HS (Sacramento, CA)
Drew Tejchman - WR - North Cobb HS (Kennesaw, GA)
Noah Bean - TE - Grace Brethren HS (Simi Valley, CA)
Jamaal Neal - FB/HB - South Gate HS (South Gate, CA)
Ashton Morgan - OL - Pleasant Valley HS (Chico, Ca)
Daniel Schoene - OL - Bakersfield HS (Bakersfield, CA)
Greg Francis - S - Bishop Gorman HS (Las Vegas, NV)
Farrell Hester - LB - Bishop Gorman HS (Las Vegas, NV)
Nate Neal - DE - Etiwanda HS (Etiwanda, CA)
Bruce Hester - DL - MESA CC/Mountain Pointe HS (Phoenix, AZ)
Justice Oluwaseun - OL - Foster HS (Richmond TX)
Jeremy Clark - WR - La Mirada HS (La Mirada, CA)
Here are a few names that UNLV is also in running for and will make their commitments known just before or on National Signing Day:
Michael Onyemaobi - WR - Chaparral HS (Temecula, CA) -
Michael, who was committed to Cal prior to the firing of Sonny Dykes, could be the crown jewel of the UNLV recruiting class. He is an exceptional athlete who is being recruited as a cornerback by Washington St., Nebraska, TCU and Iowa St. Unlike the other schools, UNLV views and is recruiting Michael as a WR and one that can come in and make an impact from day 1. Onyemaobi will make his decision known on Fox Sports National Signing Day Special on February 1st. UNLV made his "Final 5"which he announced over Twitter on Monday the 23rd. If UNLV can land Michael, he would arguably be the highest rated football recruit in the Rebels history (Armani Rogers being the other player in the discussion).
Corey Winfield Jr. – CB – Syracuse/Riverview Gardens HS (Saint Louis, MO) -
Corey is a 5th year graduate transfer who visited UNLV over the January 20th weekend would provide much needed help to the UNLV secondary. Corey processes great size and experience that UNLV desperately needs. At 6'0 and 181 pounds, Winfield Jr was a multi-year starter at cornerback, finishing this season seventh on the team with 41 tackles and tied for the team lead with four pass breakups. He intercepted three passes in his career.
JC Angulo-Santana - WR - Katy HS (Houston, TX) -
The best ways to describe Angulo-Santana is FAST and a playmaker. JC possess all the qualities that you look for in a receiver and can run the route tree from outside or in the slot. He has nice size (6'1/175) and runs a 4.45 forty. In 2016 JC caught 43 balls for 843 yards and 13 TD's. A very good year following a 15' season where he caught 36 balls for 819 yards and 13 TD's. JC is a very under the radar player that holds a total of 16 offers including offers from Boise St. Hawaii, Fresno St. Colorado St. Illinois, Syracuse and Tulsa.
As National Signing Day approaches Inside The Rebels will have more information about each of the Rebels recruits and commitments including letters from some of the commitments to the UNLV fan base.
