UNLV Drops 7th in a Row to Rival SDSU

Rebels Lose to Rival San Diego State 77-64

As has been the case so often for UNLV this season, they put forth a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde performance. In the first half the Rebels displayed very little heart and effort. Aztec shooters enjoyed as much as ten feet of space before they put up their wide open jumpers. When you couple that with sub 40% shooting for the half and careless turnovers (14 for the game on 12 assists), you get a 41-26 deficit at the half.

Jovan Mooring came to life in the 2nd half though. As per usual, UNLV was only as good as its best player. Mooring started knocking down his typical brand of deep three pointers and his team started to climb back into the game. Jojo went 4-6 from distance and 8-9 from the line. He was just 7-17 for the game overall, but he tried his best to once more carry UNLV to victory with his game high 26 points. The Rebels were able to get it as close as 6 points because of that effort, but they had dug themselves too big of a hole to climb out of when it was all said and done.

Uche Ofoegbu was perfect from the floor. He shot 5-5 overall and 2-2 from distance. The grad transfer from USF scored 13 points for the game and pulled down 5 rebounds as well. He was the only other Rebel to reach double digits in the scoring column.

UNLV is having its worst season as a program. They have compiled 7 losses in a row and a school record low 17 for the season. This marks the 11th game that they have lost by 10 or more. What makes it worse is that it's fathomable that they might not win another game the rest of the year. Hopefully that's not the case, but I know I'm not the only one wishing it were November already.
