UNLV played its Mountain West Conference basement brother today in a battle for sole possession of dead last in the standings. Air Force came in with an identical 10-17 record to the Rebels and they hadn't won in a month. That didn't seem to matter as they dismantled a reeling UNLV squad 81-58. It all came down to the Rebels complete inability to put the ball in the basket. They went a combined 16 minutes plus without scoring a field goal. On top of that they turned the ball over 15 times, which led to 25 points off said turnovers for the Falcons. UNLV shot a woeful 38% for the game, which unfortunately has become the norm for this group. Quite frankly when your identity is low shooting percentages and low IQ, even one of the worst teams in America like Air Force can still run you out of the gym.
Jovan Mooring, Tyrell Green and Jalen Poyser did what scoring the Rebels could manage. Mooring and Poyser both went for 10 points on 50% shooting apiece. Green notched 11 points, but went 3-10 overall and 1-4 from the three point line.
UNLV has 3 more regular season games remaining and the MWC Tournament looms as well. If anything else, at least the suffering will cease soon and Menzies can go about building a team that can be more competitive in the seasons to come.
