UNLV has been in desperate need for a go-to scoring option all season long. They may have just landed that player for next season. Tervell Beck a three star recruit from Cleveland Ohio pledged to the Rebels today over Arizona State, Ole Miss and Houston. Beck is listed at 6'6 and 200 lbs, but he is as big and strong as they come at the small forward position. Tervell has tremendous ball handling skills, which he uses very well to get around defenders and to drive to the basket. He's very adept at creating his own shot by using his strength to finish at will around the hoop. Beck also has a solid midrange game and can stretch the defense out to the three point line.
Also joining coach Menzies for the 2017 recruiting class (In news broken by Scout's own Lorenzo Reyna) was Monrovia California's Louis Bangai. Bangai made a silent verbal commitment to UNLV sometime in the early portion of the season. A former teammate of current Rebel walk-on Jaylon Ballou at St Paul near Pasadena, Bangai is listed at 6'10 and 250 lbs. ESPN has him listed as a 3 star recruit, but little else has been revealed about this under the radar prospect. After doing some digging it looks like Menzies and his staff might have found another diamond in the rough. In box scores listed online, Bangai has put up some dominant numbers against 3A schools. Against Salesian he put up 29 points and 13 rebounds. Versus Bosco Tech he scored 23 points, dragged down 13 rebounds and rejected 5 shots. Going up against JSerra Catholic, Bangai had an absolutely loaded stat line. He scored 19 points, hauled in 10 boards, blocked 6 shots and delved out 5 assists.
All in all that's 4 new players that will be joining the fold for UNLV next season. Rumor has it that a mass exodus is on the horizon, so Menzies will need all the able bodies he can get.
