Cheickh Mbacke Diong Pledges to UNLV for 2017

The Rebels Landed Their 5th New Addition to the 2017 Class.

UNLV just got a whole lot longer and a whole lot more versatile for next season. Marvin Menzies accepted a verbal commitment from Florida Air Academy center Cheickh Mbacke Diong. The Senegal native had offers from Louisville, UConn, Purdue and Pitt.

Mbacke Diong is listed at 6'10 225 lbs and adds an extreme amount of length and athleticism to the UNLV frontcourt. He runs the floor extraordinarily well, has exceptional leaping ability and is aggressive. Cheickh flourishes in the open court, but he is also a shot blocker on the level of former Rebels' Keon Clark, Joel Anthony and Khem Birch. Not only that, but he is a very high IQ passing big man.

Many will wonder what this signing will mean for Brandon McCoy, but my sources indicate that UNLV is still in the mix. For now, Rebel fans should rejoice and revel in this pick up. Menzies and his staff outworked some great coaches and programs to get this kid to Vegas.
