UNLV Implodes in MWC Tournament Against SDSU

UNLV Goes Stagnant in 2nd Half and SDSU Comes Back to Win.

UNLV was up 32-14 going into halftime and Jovan Mooring was outscoring the Aztec's by himself with 15 points. Then the 2nd half happened. SDSU used a monster 25-3 run to take the lead and the Rebels limped their way into the end of regulation tied at 50. From there UNLV only managed 2 points in overtime and lost the game 62-52.

It was the kind of game where you kind of had the feeling that UNLV was going to lose, even when they were winning. SDSU quickly stole the momentum in the 2nd half by implementing a blitzkrieg press and the Rebels were on their heels with a deer-in-headlight expression etched on the entire team's face as a result. Making matters even worse, Jovan Mooring fouled out with about 4 minutes left in the game and it felt like the season was over from there.

Christian Jones notched 16 points and 8 rebounds for the game. Jovan Mooring as mentioned above was unstoppable early, but he only had 3 points after halftime and was completely nullified by the Aztec defense. No other Rebels reached double figures.

UNLV wraps up its worse season ever by going 11-21. While it was a close game and it would have been nice to secure a MWCT victory, it is instead mercifully over. Coach Menzies now has 7 months until official practices begin and he has that time to reevaluate his team and make the necessary changes. Hopefully by the time the beginning of November rolls around UNLV will have a much more competitive group to put out on the floor.
