After yielding a barrage of three pointers to Utah just three days earlier, UNLV came out of the gate strong on the defensive end. The Rebels forced 13 Cougar turnovers and tightly contested shots over the first twenty minutes. The Rebels struggled as well offensively but took a 26-22 lead to the locker room. The 22 points and the four point halftime deficit were season worsts for the Cougars.
The Cougars took the lead early in the second half as the game remained close until the final minutes. With under eight minutes remaining, BYU maintained a 39-37 lead before going on the decisive run.
Dalron Johnson led UNLV with 18 points on 8-12 shooting. Johnson also blocked two shots before fouling out in the final minute.
Chris Richardson was the only other Rebel to log double digit points
