Kruger injures ankle

UNLV had a lot of to be happy about after its season-opening 73-59 victory over Hawaii on Friday night. But one big concern afterward involved the right ankle of starting point guard Kevin Kruger.

Kruger injured the ankle while battling for a rebound with 4:24 left in the game. He was on the floor for about 30 seconds before he limped back to the bench where the ankle was re-wrapped during a timeout.

Kruger returned to the court and played just another 42 seconds, sinking 3 of 4 free throws in that time, before leaving the contest for good.

"I'm not sure," UNLV coach Lon Kruger said when asked how serious the injury was afterward. "He rolled it pretty good. It puffed up on him. It's one of those things where we'll probably get some X-rays and know a lot more tomorrow."
