Another Florida recruit for UNLV

UNLV continues to enjoy recruiting success in Florida. The Rebels have signed 5 players from Florida in the last two recruiting classes, one of whom, Quinton Pointer, was rated as the #37 overall player in the state last year before a knee injury saw Florida pull its scholarship offer. Pointer has enrolled at UNLV and will be joined by another recent Sunshine State recruit.

UNLV has struck gold again with a commitment from all-everything player Sam Baptiste from Lely High School in Naples, Florida. The 5-11, 170 pound player was among his team leaders in rushing, receiving, scoring, tackles and he had seven interceptions. It is hard to argue with that type of production. Did his on-field prowess result in multiple scholarship offers?

"Yes, I had offers from Kent State, UNLV and Eastern Michigan. I also had a lot of interest from Wisconsin, Indiana and Colorado. I really thought I was going to get an offer from the Badgers but I didn't."

Many of the schools that were recruiting Baptiste were in cold winter climates. Did weather play a role in his decision?

"No, not really. I just really liked UNLV. The coaches were great and I liked the school itself. I just really liked everything about the program."

Have the UNLV coaches talked to Baptiste as far as their plans for him next season?

"No, but I'd really like a chance to come in and play right away. I like to compete and that is what I plan to do."
