Hoping for Horton

UNLV will have to wait until late Wednesday afternoon to finalize its official national letter of intent signing list. That's because safety Shane Horton (6-2, 200) of Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, Calif., rated a three-star recruit by Scout.com, is scheduled to announce his college choice at 5:30 p.m. (PST) on Fox Sports West's national letter of intent signing show.

Horton, the son of former UCLA lineman Mike Horton, lists the Rebels as one of his three final schools along with Washington and Oregon. Horton would be one of the highest rated recruits to sign with third-year Rebel head coach Mike Sanford should he select the Rebels over the two Pac-10 programs. Horton's teammate at Notre Dame High, wide receiver Mike Stanton (6-4, 205), also is considering UNLV. Stanton had to cancel a recruiting trip to UNLV last weekend because of a death in the family. He also is a blue chip baseball prospect who has been offered a scholarship in that sport by USC. Stanton would play both sports at UNLV if he signs with the Rebels.
