Kruger released from hospital

It appears UNLV head coach Lon Kruger is recovering nicely after undergoing open heart surgery on Aug. 2. Kruger was released Monday afternoon from St. Rose Siena Hospital and, according to a UNLV school press release, is expected to be back to his normal schedule in four to six weeks.

Kruger underwent successful open-heart sextuple bypass surgery, which was performed by Dr. V.C. Smith, Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at St. Rose Siena Hospital. Cardiologist Dr. Matt McMahon identified abnormalities early and referred Kruger to Dr. Smith for surgery.

"Dr. Smith and Dr. McMahon were fantastic," Kruger said in the school press release. "The surgery was very successful. I would also like to thank everyone who has called with their well wishes. They are all much appreciated. I look forward to being back to full speed at the appropriate time."
