Another football commit for Rebels

A 27-0 shutout victory over old nemesis Utah last Saturday night wasn't the only thing that UNLV head coach Mike Sanford picked up over the weekend. Sanford also got a verbal commitment from a wide receiver the Rebels coveted.

Phillip Payne (6-4, 185) of Western High School in Las Vegas picked UNLV over scholarship offers from Utah and Arizona. He also was being recruited by Nevada and Colorado State.

"I just really feel like I fit in," Payne told the Rebel Nation's Terry Tarver. "I also really like the coaching staff. They treated me well through the whole process."

The lanky Payne, who has been timed at 4.6 in the forty and has a 37-inch vertical jump, scored 15 touchdowns as a junior and also is a standout for the Warriors basketball team.

Tarver's complete interview with Payne as well as Rebel defensive back recruit Eric Hicks of Norco can be found in the Sept. 27 issue of Rebel Nation.
