Troy Cage to have knee surgery

UNLV doesn't officially open basketball practice until Friday but the defending Mountain West Conference Tournament champions have already lost a potential backcourt contributor and good defender to injury.

Redshirt freshman guard Troy Cage, expected to compete for playing time at guard this year, will undergo knee surgery on Friday to repair a torn tendon according to UNLV head coach Lon Kruger. The 6-foot-5 Cage sat out Monday's short workout at the Thomas & Mack Center complaining of sore knees. "Troy Cage has a partial tendon tear in his knee and will have surgery on Friday," Kruger told Rebel Nation. "He'll be out until mid-January."
