Junior to Watch: QB Rocky Hinds

There may not be a more physically gifted quarterback in the country than Playa Del Rey's (Calif.) St. Bernard's Rocky Hinds. We caught up with Hinds this past Sunday working out at Steve Clarkson's Air 7 quarterback camp and got his thoughts on what direction recruiting is going in right now.

At 6-4, 210 pounds, Hinds has a college body right now and is one of the top athletes on the West Coast regardless of position. In a track meet two weeks ago, Hinds clocked an amazing 10.47 in the 100m, long jumped 22'3" and high jumped 6'7".

Hinds looked great on Sunday showing a very strong, accurate arm. He threw a nice, tight spiral every time and mechanically looked like he has made huge strides since the end of last season.

"That's why I'm out here working out," Hinds said. "Track is fun but football is my sport and I'm always trying to get better. Being out here helps me with my fundamentals, things like my drops and my release."

As a junior, Hinds threw for 1,642 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed for 495 yards and five more scores on the ground. When we saw Hinds play in person last season, he showed flashes of brilliance but also looked a bit raw at times. If he can continue to develop as a quarterback to go along with his off the charts athleticism and arm strength, he'll be one of the nation's top college prospects.

Hinds grew up a die hard John David Booty, where does that leave Hinds?

"Right now my top schools are Florida State," Hinds said. "I've always liked USC a lot and I'm not afraid of competition. I live just five minutes away from the school so I grew up wanting to go there. There's going to be good players wherever you go so I'm prepared to compete with anyone.

"With Notre Dame, I really like Coach (Ty) Willingham and I'm friends with Freddie Parish. Distance isn't a factor for me either, I'll go anywhere if it's the right place for me."
