Downey (Calif.) linebacker Jabari Ruffin spent Saturday morning watching USC go through its first full pads practice of spring and came away impressed.

"I liked it. Everybody was cool," said Ruffin, who committed to the Trojans earlier this month. "I got to meet a lot of the 2011 guys and there were a bunch of other recruits there."

It was also Ruffin's first time seeing the current USC roster in action. Tackling drills, eschewed last season because of injury concerns, were a major highlight.

"They were hyped up. Hayes Pullard and Dion Bailey both looked really good," he said.

After practice, Ruffin spent time with linebackers coach Joe Barry reviewing the just completed practice.

"Me and another recruit, we were watching the film. Coach Barry was pointing out some of the coverages and drops and new terminology," Ruffin said.

Ruffin said Barry sees him as a weakside linebacker in college.

And while most schools backed off after his commitment to USC, Ruffin continues to hear from a handful trying to sway him.

"Arizona State and UCLA, they are still strongly recruiting me. I would say they're actually more interested since I committed," Ruffin said.
