College Football Preview: USC

Scout's College Football Preview looks at the USC Trojans' 2011 season.

Last season's record: 8-5

Returning starters/letterwinners:

Six players on offense: Quarterback Matt Barkley, Receiver Robert Woods, Offensive Tackle Matt Kalil, Offensive Lineman Khaled Holmes, Running Back Marc Tyler, Tightend Rhett Ellison

Eight players on defense (*two split time): Tackles Armond Armstead and DaJohn Harris, Ends Devon Kennard* and Nick Perry, linebacker Chris Galippo*, safeties T.J. McDonald and Jawanza Starling, cornerback Nickell Robey

Key losses: Tyron Smith, Malcolm Smith, Kris O'Dowd

Key returnees: Robert Woods, Matt Kalil, Matt Barkley

Best game: 10/29/2011 VS Stanford in the Coliseum. Two potential Heisman candidates duking it out in the Coliseum.

Projected finish: 10-2

Outlook: A decent schedule and a team with as much confidence as under the Pete Carroll era, the Trojans have had a productive spring. They seemed to have overcome their obstacles associated with last season's transition year and have a powerful list of offensive weapons and a veteran defensive line. If they can improve their pass defense and their offensive line can protect Barkley, they should continue the tradition of being a college football powerhouse. Top Stories
