Pete Carroll filled the last remaining spot on his coaching staff with the addition of graduate assistant Dennis Slutak. Slutak will work with the kickers as an assistant to special teams coach Kennedy Pola.
There has been a buzz for several weeks about the hiring of Slutak and the potential impact it could have on the Trojan kicking game. Slutak worked with Norm Chow at North Carolina State and Chow must have given a good recommendation because there is a genuine thought that he can improve the situation at USC. As is so often the case with Carroll, a primary factor in the decision was experience.
"I wanted to hire someone with special teams experience," the Trojan coach told the LA Daily News.
Brennan Carroll, the son of Pete, serves as the other graduate assistant while working with the tight ends. Rocky Seto, who now coaches safeties, was a graduate assistant for the past three seasons.
