Extra Points: Takeaways from Saturday

Some extra observations, sights and notes after Saturday's practice at Howard Jones Field.

First, NFL scouts from the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions were present at Saturday's practice. This week has seen the likes of just about every team in the league.

Second, Coach Kiffin said last week that Marqise Lee has been the star of Fall Camp and the Serra High product showed it Saturday. Lee grabbed at least three passes from different quarterbacks that looked like NFL-grabs, one where he barely kept his foot on the right sideline in the end zone and on another he leaped to grab a ball that was at his ankles one second and in his hands the next.

Third, Chris Galippo is as much of a character on the field as he is off. Armond Armstead and Galippo were dancing to the music playing on the loudspeaker. Galippo's rotator cuff didn't look to be still hurting after suffering a contusion the other day, as the linebacker-comedian performed a variety of dance moves.

Fourth, Max Wittek has sure taken a lot of repetitions this week. It will be very interesting to see how the two backup quarterbacks perform in Sunday's scrimmage. Kiffin said he is equally impressed with Wittek as he is Cody Kessler. It is likely that the factor between who redshirts and who gets the backup nod will be marginal.

Fifth, Amir Carlisle had a rough few days this week but he looks to have bounced back playing well and like his usual explosive self Friday and Saturday. As of Saturday afternoon, Kiffin did not know who would be the starting tailback for Sunday's scrimmage.
