One of the offensive linemen who raised his stock at the USC Nike Camp on April 6th was Geoffrey Schwartz out of Pacific Palisades High School. Schwartz is big, athletic, and has great footwork. WeAreSC.com spoke with him recently and got the following update…
Geoffrey Schwartz is one busy prep athlete. Not only is he a Division I recruit at offensive tackle for the class of 2004, but he also currently sports a 2.00 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 42 innings as a starting pitcher, and he averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds a game starting at center for the recently completed basketball season. He was All-League in football while playing offensive tackle and tight end on offense, and defensive tackle on defense. He also long-snaps. Pass blocking and footwork are Schwartz's strengths as an o-linemen. He only allowed one sack all last season. On defense, he had 30 tackles, 4 fumble caused, 2 fumble recoveries, 3 batted balls, and 5 sacks. Additionally, Schwartz is an excellent student boasting a 3.4 GPA and a score of 27 on the ACT. Obviously he is fully qualified. Academics will be a large part of the equation for his college choice, as Pre-Law will be his major.
The initial list of schools that are showing an interest in this future left tackle include several highly rated academic institutions. Included are Stanford, Notre Dame, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Colorado, Nebraska, and Washington State. None have offered as of yet. His parents are both UCLA alumni, however Geoffrey will make his college choice on his own. He would also like to play baseball in college.
Schwartz attended both of the Nike Camps at USC, the most recent being May 6th. He measured out at just under 6'7" and 300 pounds. He has a 28" vertical and a 4.8 shuttle time. He is not lifting weights with his regular routine right now because of the baseball season. He expects to eventually fill-out to around 325 pounds. He likes to model his game after players such as Tony Boselli and Jonathan Ogden. In regards to USC specifically, Geoffrey liked the athletics, academics, and the reputation of both. His recruiting coordinator from USC will be Coach Orgeron. Geoffrey Schwartz is one offensive lineman to watch for the class of 2004.
