"It all happened pretty quickly. The SC coaches came up Friday before last to visit my old high school (Montgomery) and they talked to my former coach about me. Then Coach Carroll and Coach Holt stopped by Santa Rosa JC last Monday to watch practice and see some film. I guess they liked what they saw because they called last Friday and offered me a scholarship. Well, I just couldn't let that pass by so I said yes right away. My family is pretty excited right now.
I'm 6-2, 220. I kind of slid under the radar coming out of high school and had a few Div 1AA and Div 2 offers but I knew I could do better so I headed to junior college because I figured they could market me a little better. I guess that worked out OK, huh? This area isn't heavily recruited, especially for DB's, so I'm just really happy with the way things have turned out. Boise State had offered me a scholarship to come in right now but I told them I wanted to wait. Kentucky was also getting ready to offer but when SC stepped up, well, it just doesn't get any bigger than that. I watched the Orange Bowl last year and the Notre Dame game. I also talked to my JC coach about Pete Carroll and the work he does with defensive backs. I'm real excited about playing for him.
The SC coaches told me they like my hard-hitting nature and they want me to play free safety. There hasn't been any mention of me changing positions. I think the strengths of my game are the hard hits and the fact that I'm not too dumb of a guy, I can pick things up pretty fast. I played both WR and FS in high school but at junior college they wanted me to make a choice so I picked defense. I've got a little piss-n-vinegar in me, I like to hit people.
I'm looking to major in biology at USC but not medical, it'll probably be something to do with environmental biology. I had a 4.0 and a 1,260 SAT coming out of HS. Right now the plan is for me to take summer school, play at Santa Rosa in the fall and then be at SC next spring to take part in spring ball."
