Junior to Watch: OL Andrew Woodruff

The recent Stanford Nike Camp revealed a jewel from Canada at the guard/center position. Andrew Woodruff, out of Victoria High School on Vancouver Island in Victoria, Canada, was considered by many to be the top offensive lineman at the camp. WeAreSC.com caught up with Andrew to get his thoughts on the camp as well as an update regarding his recruitment. He mentioned if a particular PacTen school were to offer, he would probably commit…

Andrew Woodruff is currently the #3 overall rated high school football prospect in Canada, and the #1 rated offensive lineman in British Columbia. However, living in a country where hockey is king, his extensive talents have unfairly many times gone unnoticed, especially in the USA. That was until recently. After a stellar showing at the Northern California Nike Camp on May 10th, college coaches from around the country have him on their wish list. Woodruff is an agile 6'2", 297-pound interior lineman who is as strong as on ox. He put up 30 reps on the bench press at the Nike Camp, and currently maxes out on the bench at 390. He also can squat 480 pounds, run a 5.1 forty, a 4.8 second shuttle time, and has a vertical leap of 25.9". He is a cerebral football player who strengths currently lay in pulling and run blocking. He is working extensively on his pass-blocking footwork for the next level. His style of play is comparable to center Kevin Mawae of the Jets. The Stanford Camp was the first camp in the States for Woodruff. He was consistently put up against top-rated ends like Jeff Schweiger during some of the drills, and more than held his own.

In addition to football, Andrew has played organized hockey, basketball, indoor volleyball, soccer, and has thrown the shot put. Besides the normal weight training, he likes to run track, stairs, and climb hills to improve fitness levels. He is a renaissance man of sorts as his interests also include playing the trumpet, trombone, piano, and baritone. He also speaks French fluently. Woodruff would like to major in Criminology in college. He scored a 1030 on the SAT the only time he took the exam before his junior year, and currently has a 4.2 GPA.

There are many schools that are in contact with Andrew. His current list of favorites include: USC, Cal, Stanford, Miami, and Boise State. He would prefer to play on the west coast and in the PacTen. None of his favorites have offered as of yet. The Trojans are definitely Woodruff's favorite. He would likely commit to USC if offered. He really likes the intensity SC plays with, the variable of going against SC's top-rated defensive line in practice everyday, and the fact he would love to play for Coach Carroll. "And hey", he mentioned,"it's USC."
