Tailback U became five-stars stronger Thursday evening after Stockton (Calif.) Lincoln back Justin Davis announced he will be playing at USC.
"Today is the day I will remember," explained Davis Thursday, after texting the media to announce his decision. "I waited for this day for a long time. I'm just so happy to say I'm a Trojan."
After taking his first unofficial visit to campus in early April, Davis knew he was destined to become a part of the Trojan Family.
"I wanted to be there ever since that first visit," explained Davis. "The academics and athletics combined, there is no other school like it."
The USC coaching staff was told by Davis three weeks ago that he wanted to be a Trojan. However, he waited to make his announcement knowing his delay could benefit those who play around him.
"I just wanted to help out my teammates, so more college coaches would come out," Davis said, knowing some of his teammates were still looking for offers. "I didn't want to be committed yet."
Davis is the second five-star running back to commit to the Trojans in just a two-day span.
Joliet (Ill.) Joliet Catholic Academy back Ty Isaac announced Tuesday he'll be coming west to play for USC as well.
The two backs have already begun to forge their relationship as part of the Trojan Family.
"We were talking about how we're going to be the top two running backs in the nation going to the same team," Davis said. "We're going to have that one-two tandem, we're going to work off each other, and we're really cool about playing together. We just can't wait to get in there and do some work."
Despite his undeniable athleticism and skill set, the USC coaching staff is making Davis no promises of playing time when he arrives on campus.
The only guarantee is that he will have the opportunity to compete.
"They said I can help right away because they've got the need for running backs," he explained. "They're not promising me any spots, but they know it's there for me to go get."
Davis is ready for the challenge.
He's well aware of the great backs who have come before him in Trojan history and is anxious to start leaving his own mark.
"It does mean a lot knowing that when I go to USC I will be put into one of the best situations to succeed and follow in those peoples footsteps," he said. "(Achieving) my goal of coming to USC is just the start."
Just the Beginning for Davis
