Coming Down to Game Day

Aundrey Walker and Max Tuerk battled at practice this week to earn the starting spot at left tackle... But we'll have to wait until game day to see who won the role.

Coach Lane Kiffin announced on Tuesday the competition was back on at left tackle between starter Aundrey Walker and freshman Max Tuerk.

However, he wouldn't say on Thursday who won. "I think both guys will play," he said. "We'll go back and look at this film and make a decision on who will start."

The Trojans are not one of – but are the most penalized team in the FBS, ranked 120th out of 120 teams… and Walker currently leads the team in that category. Against Washington he was called for holding, costing the Trojans' a touchdown, and a false start.

The starting role at the position was also up for grabs following the 21-14 loss at Stanford, when Kiffin said Walker did not put forth the effort expected from a player on the USC football team.

Walker got the start the following weekend against California, but split time with Tuerk through the first half. Walker went on to play the entire second half, putting forth his best performance of the season.

The sophomore was awarded the starting spot at left tackle during spring practice, mainly in part due to the lack of competition at the position.

Tuerk took reps at left tackle during fall camp when Walker was sidelined for a couple of weeks with a subluxed shoulder injury.

After two subpar performances from Walker through the first six games, it would not be surprising to see Tuerk get the start on Saturday as USC hosts Colorado. Colorado is just 1-5, with opponents putting twice as many points on the scoreboard this season.
