Freshman Could Make History

Freshman Max Tuerk could get the start on Saturday at left tackle in the desert. If he does, it will be a first in history at USC....

Sophomore Aundrey Walker, named the starter at left tackle during spring practice, has been one of the most inconsistent players to take the field for the Trojans this fall, opening the door for freshman Max Tuerk to get time at the position.

Tuerk has battled Walker multiple weeks at practice to try to win over the starting role. He has yet to take the field first, but with Walker going down injured against Colorado, this may be Tuerk's week.

"Max took a lot of reps (Tuesday) just like he did last week and just like he did in the game," Coach Lane Kiffin said after practice this week. "Max played half the game last week and did a really good job so whoever is there will do good."

According to USC, if Tuerk does indeed start, he will be the first true freshman to ever start at left tackle in the history of the program.

"We're very excited about Max's future here," Kiffin said.
