BLOG: Afternoon updates from Army Bowl

Nine USC commits made their way to Blossom Athletic Center today to take in practice for the west team at the Army All-American Bowl. Check out the blog for insights from the afternoon.

West practice
2:44 PM Update
Refreshing the Twitter feed to see things aren't going to well in El Paso, wondering how this team could be losing to Georgia Tech after a month of preparation.

Time to run downstairs to interview USC 2013 commits.

2:34 PM Update
Pace here is back to a crawl. Max Browne just threw a ball to receiver Corey Robinson, 4-star Notre Dame commit. Dropped the ball.

2:17 PM Update
Keeping practice moving, offense and defense now split up. Kickers are still off in their own world (nothing new there).

Chris Hawkins looks to be learning some dance moves from Kam Miles. Both DB's rocking a similar style on the field today, opting to keep it cool wearing their sweats over their football pads (or maybe that's called keeping it warm in the steady rain?).

Kylie Fitts is standing on the 30-yard line. Fitts dressed in a hoodie, looking down at something which I'm presuming is a phone to get an update on his future team's status at the Sun Bowl, which as of now USC down still 7-0 with Curtis McNeal's fumble being overruled.

Drills look to be at a walk-thru standstill. Eddie V taking a knee on the far sideline.

Time for the punter to do his thing – and it's Chris Hawkins who is shagging… or maybe thinking about returning? But he can't even see them coming since he has his back turned half the time chatting with Cravens who is standing five-feet behind him. Alright, Hawkins is in action now. Looks like he'll be one of the punt returners for the west. Alongside Hawkins returning punts is Steven Mitchell. Oh and there went Su'a Cravens (still in sweats). So it appears Hawkins and Mitchell will get special teams action for the west.

2:11 PM Update
Still at full team drills, turned the field around and heading toward the scoreboard now.

Chris Hawkins is standing on the sidelines now chatting it up with his future teammate Su'a Cravens. Cravens looks like he has his phone out, maybe they're checking on the score of that Sun Bowl game? (Right now, it's 7-0 Georgia Tech).

Texas A&M Kam Miles is busting a move on the practice field. He's the high school teammate of former USC-verbal commit Eldridge Massington. By busting a move, I'm indeed referring to dancing. This is no two-step.

1:54 PM Update
Red zone drills, Max Browne hands off to Justin Davis for a 5-yard run and easily finds the endzone.

Max Browne finds Ezekiel Elliot in the endzone for a 5-yard touchdown. Elliot is an Ohio State commit.

Chris Hawkins breaks up a pass intended for Derek Griffin from Hayden Rettig in the endzone. Hawkins having a strong today. Haven't seen a ball caught on him yet.

Justin Davis with another mack-truck run up the middle and another easy touchdown for him. The handoff from Hayden Rettig. Very next play, Rettig intends for --- Su'a Cravens on the sideline? Cravens still standing on the sideline in a gray hoodie.

1:44 PM Update
Full team drills now starting up again. Torrodney Prevot lining up at defensive end, Chris Hawkins was at corner for that rep – a defensive combo USC fans are bound to see in the future.

Max Browne under center, hands off to Justin Davis who goes straight up the middle.

1:30 PM Update
Action back out on the field, guys lining up to stretch.

1:17 PM Update
Guys clearing the field, heading back into the lockerroom. Perhaps to put some pads on and come back out for some football?

1:05 PM Update
Rain still coming down and practice is back in action…the slow motion kind. No pads, guys in sweatshirts, most of them with hands in pockets. Except for the man-child that is Eddie Vanderdoes. He's standing around wearing a baby-blue t-shirt and flip-flops.
