All smiles for Hawkins

USC commit Chris Hawkins spoke with FOX Sports NEXT following Thursday's practice at the Army All-American Bowl. The four-star cornerback says he's set to early enroll at USC next week.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Chris Hawkins is all-smiles at the Army All-American Bowl this week in San Antonio, but the USC commit admits his usual grin faded for a period this fall.

"The way they were recruiting me," he explained, "I wasn't really getting calls from my coach [Marvin] Sanders."

Despite the cool off, the four-star cornerback still took his official visit to USC on January 7th and says it's been smooth sailing with the Trojans ever since.

"When I took my official visit that summed everything up," Hawkins said. "I felt like that's the place I wanted to be the whole time, I got to take my official with a lot of the early enrollees and we just grew there too."

He's been on the phone with USC coaches nearly every day since.

The Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) product will arrive on campus January 10th with classes set to begin on January 14th.

"I'm just trying to get this game over with," Hawkins said, "get back home, pack my bags and get all my stuff ready and head to South Central."

"I need to get there, get in the weight room and get stronger," he added. "Hopefully I can compete for a starting job right when I get there."

Until then, Hawkins is taking every advantage of his opportunity to spend time with 12 of his future teammates and is spreading the smiles.
