Four-Star: Steven Mitchell

USC received a verbal commitment from Steven Mitchell just seconds after a scholarship offer was extended to the four-star receiver.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — He seems to be the least talked about USC 2013 recruit and he may just end up being the one who surprises you the most. four-star receiver Steven Mitchell was a Trojan the entire way.

The 5-foot-10 180-pound receiver had 23 offers, including one from every Pac-12 school except Stanford, but chose the USC long before National Signing Day.

The thing is, the Trojans weren't the first to choose him. Mitchell patiently collected his offers, thought about them, but knew the one he really wanted wasn't on the list.

He attended USC's Rising Stars camp in June with everything to prove: he deserved an offer from the Trojans.

He got it.

"My whole family met with Coach Kiffin and Coach Orgeron after the camp in his office," Mitchell told FOX Sports NEXT in June. "I was hoping they wanted to talk to me about an offer and that's what happened. When Coach Kiffin told me they were offering me a scholarship, I couldn't believe it. I just smiled, took a deep breath and said, 'I would love to be a Trojan'."

From June until Feb. 6 National Signing Day there was never any doubt Mitchell would end up a Trojan. His only official visit was to USC.

Mitchell was named an Army All-American this year. At Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany he had 62 receptions for 1,100 yards including 13 touchdowns. He also ran for 202 yards and five touchdowns. He was named Serra League's CO-MVP.

Mitchell is lined up all over the place at Alemany and is a game breaker at both running back and in the slot. He's also a very talented cover corner and could easily play on the defensive side of the ball in college. He may not have the same top end speed as Larue but he's an equally dynamic player in the open field and is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He's also an elite return man and has the talent to play early.
