Austin commits to USC

2014 Claremont (Calif.) offensive lineman Jordan Austin camped with USC in early June and returned Wednesday for Rising Stars, where he picked up an offer from the Trojans. A few hours later, he's now USC's latest verbal commit.

2014 Claremont (Calif.) offensive lineman Jordan Austin wanted to commit on the spot when he received a USC offer at Rising Stars on Wednesday, but thought it would be best to discuss it with his parents first.

The discussion went well and the final decision didn't take long. Austin called USC coaches Wednesday night to give them his commitment.

"It's been a life changing day for me," Austin told FOX Sports NEXT Wednesday evening on the telephone. "I'm speechless, this happened so fast.

"My parents both support me. They told me I could make this decision on my own, it's where I'll be living and going to school."

Austin made a round of phone calls to USC head coach Lane Kiffin, offensive line coach Mike Summers, offensive line assistant James Cregg, and quarterbacks coach [offensive coordinator] Clay Helton to inform them of his commitment.

The three-star prospect attended USC's O-Line/D-Line camp in early June. He said he "had a big time performance" at that camp, and had a feeling an offer might be on the table if he returned to Troy for Rising Stars.

He didn't participate on Wednesday, but spent the day observing the USC coaches and took another look around campus. He says he saw all he needed to know that USC is the place for him.

"The coaches, they are going to push you and I know I am a work in progress, they'll make me the best I can be," Austin explained. "They've sent offensive tackles to the NFL and that's my dream, to go there. The academics are also big, I can get my masters there."

Austin will enroll midyear for the Trojans. He's on track to graduate early his senior year. "I can't wait to get a head start," he said.

The 6-foot-5 280-pound recruit says he'll most likely play right tackle for the Trojans.

"I'm still speechless," Austin said. "I'm ecstatic for the opportunity. I'm blessed. This really goes to show, hard work does pay off."

Austin is the sixth verbal commit for USC and Kiffin in the 2014 recruiting class.
