El Cerrito (Calif.) linebacker D.J. Calhoun (6-0, 201), got off to a good start at The Opening on Monday, in a week that will be big for him.

Calhoun will announce his decision on Wednesday night but on Day One, it was all about football.

"I ran a 4.6 and I'm pretty happy with it," said Calhoun. "And I did pretty good in the drills. I've been doing camps for a lot of weeks, almost every week, and I'm banged up and running on fumes, but the adrenaline doesn't stop. I'm a football player. If you can't keep going when you're playing football, don't play. I'll just keep on going."

What won't keep going after this week is his recruitment, which he will end once and for all on Wednesday.

"I'm going to be set with it and I want to stay with it," said Calhoun. "I just want to get it over with and focus on my year and school."

Calhoun said there are five schools are in the mix for him, though it's been clearly a Los Angeles battle for months.

"My top five are USC, UCLA, Arizona State, Miami and Cal," said Calhoun. "When I commit, I will be done."

UCLA offered him in November and has long been at the top, but USC, where his sister plays basketball, offered him in March and has emerged in recent weeks.

And on Wednesday, Calhoun will end his recruitment and make his decision.

"We have a chance to play for the state championship this year, and that's all I want to worry about and be focused on," said Calhoun.
