Second half of summer underway

The Trojans were back on Cromwell Field Tuesday morning for voluntary players-only throwing sessions. With the second session of summer school underway, class schedules have changed, and so have the players available to participate...

It was nearly a full house Tuesday on Cromwell Field for the Trojans as they resumed players-only throwing sessions since taking a week off between summer school sessions.

All three quarterbacks, Cody Kessler, Max Wittek, and Max Browne were there to lead the 7on7 and 11on11 portions of the practice. All three guys looked sharp Tuesday, the quarterback battle now officially just a few weeks away. I'm still giving the nod to Kessler, but it's going to be close.

For the first time this summer, freshman Su'a Cravens participated in the full workout. Cravens was limited in his participation during the first half of the summer due to his class schedule. Cravens looks like a veteran on the field, not only physically, but by the confidence he plays with. He recorded a sack on Wittek during the two-minute drill.

Freshman Ty Isaac caught a few passes out of the backfield. Obviously still no pads yet for Isaac, but he and freshman Justin Davis are sure to pack a strong one-two punch in the coming years at Troy. Noticeably not at the throwing session was senior Silas Redd. No word if that was due to a class scheduling conflict or if Redd is still spending time in rehab for his knee.

The defensive line once again looked dominant. Not only does each player on the line look big but they are moving extremely well. As has been the case over the summer, the quarterbacks have been scrambling on more plays this summer than I ever recall seeing just a summer ago.

Players are expected to be back on Cromwell Field Friday morning for another players-only session.
