Trojans going after Houston

2015 Gardena (Calif.) Serra linebacker John Houston didn't hesitate when asked if any school in his recruitment is recruiting him harder than others.

"USC," he told FOX Sports NEXT at Battle of the Beach in Southern California. "They're a good program. Good tradition, academics, it's an all-around school."

Houston says it's the Trojans' defensive line coach Ed Orgeron who is heading his recruitment.

The 6-foot-3 203-pound defensive end/outside linebacker expects he'd play on the edge at USC in defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast's new defense.

He had the opportunity to see the role and learn the technique at the Trojans' Rising Stars camp in June. "I did pretty good," he said. "They loved me and wanted to talk to me some more."

The Trojans are one of his many early offers, including Florida State, Washington, UCLA, Florida, Miami, Utah, Oklahoma, Washington State and Oregon State.

Despite the Trojans recruiting him the hardest, Houston said that it's an even playing field for now, where his interests stand.

"All schools, I'm looking at their program, things with the school."

Still early in the process for the Los Angeles native, he says he still isn't sure if he wants to stay local or move away from home.
