Highlights of Thomas Welsh during Pangos All-American Camp in June.
2014 Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola center Thomas Welsh and his AAU Rockfish team, which includes point guard Robert Cartwright, drew a crowd of coaches to their court over the first weekend of the July evaluation period.
Welsh, 7-foot 240-pounds, is a FOX Sports NEXT four-star recruit whose stock appears to be on the rise -- but it isn't easy to tell just by speaking with the big man -- as he keep much of his recruiting process under wraps.
"I'm still looking at everyone. I'm taking my time with the process, " he told FOX Sports NEXT at Pangos Sweet 16 in Long Beach (Calif.). "I'm not limiting anything, I'm still looking at all of my options."
Welsh says he's looking for a program that has the best overall combination of athletics and academics, noting that it is "still really broad" what he is looking for.
Welsh has taken a number of unofficial visits during the process, including trips to Stanford, California, Santa Clara, UCLA, and USC.
The unofficial to USC was Welsh's first time on campus. "It was nice, the campus is phenomenal," he said. "I was really impressed."
Though it was his first time to campus, it wasn't his first time seeing new Trojan head coach Andy Enfield in action. "I saw him from the Florida Gulf Coast days, but yeah he's a great coach, seems like he is going to bring a great offense to USC," Welsh said.
As far where the Trojans stand in the list of schools Welsh is considering? He won't say, but did say he "really likes" USC. "I like the whole coaching staff, they seem like really great people. USC is obviously a great school, I think their basketball program is definitely on the way up."
