"I was just trying to get the defensive scheme in my mind and master it," said Ruffin about the sack. "Just working with all the technique Coach [Orgeron] taught us before the snap, and just try to fly off the ball."
During USC's night practice, the offense proved to be a challenge for the offense in their goal line drills, scoring on almost every drive. However, Ruffin says the competition helps to make both sides better.
"You know we give each other good looks everyday," said Ruffin. "Some days the offense will go out there and ball out, like you've seen on goal line today, and other days the defense is out there...it just goes back and forth. Offense and defense out there working to get each other better with a bunch of energy."
With the 2013 season starting in just a few weeks, Ruffin says he has a few things he wants to accomplish before the first kickoff.
"Just know all of the plays like the back of my hand," said Ruffin. "And just keep working with Coach O and Coach Clancy [Pendergast] to get the playbook and technique right."
