Heidari talks 52-yard FG at Hawaii

USC place kicker Andre Heidari recaps the Hawaii game and how he is improving his consistency.

It looks like the off-season did some good for USC place kicker Andre Heidari, as No. 48 drilled a 52-yard field goal against the Rainbow Warriors last weekend.

Heidari nailed all three of his field goal attempts, starting him off with a 100 percent completion rate for the 2013 season. While this statistic might seem trivial, it's a big improvement as Heidari went 10 for 16 last season, ending with a 62.5 percent completion rate. Already Heidari looks to be more consistent, and he says he is continuing to improve every day.

"Just really focusing on swinging up and keeping my eyes back," said Heidari. "If you want to be the best, you have to work on the little technical stuff and be the best you can be."

Heidari says he doesn't know if he's kicked that far before in practice, but says he just tried to keep his mind calm before he nailed the 52-yard shot.

"Just pick a target, take my three steps back, two over, take a deep breath, inhale, exhale, nod my head say 'I'm ready,' and there we go," said Heidari.

The Trojans will host Washington State on Saturday for their Pac-12 opener, and Heidari says he will continue to move forward each and every week.

"I think every kicker in the country's goal is to go 100 percent every year," said Heidari. "So that's my goal right now."
