USC turning up dial on Leniu

The Trojans are starting to keep in constant contact with 2014 Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco linebacker Chandler Leniu...

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco head coach Jason Negro calls senior linebacker Chandler Leniu one of the best pure football players on his talented Bosco roster.

Now the USC staff is starting to see it.

USC defensive line coach Ed Orgeron has turned up the dial recently in the recruitment of Leniu, a three-star prospect.

"It's been going great," Leniu told FOX Sports' SCPlaybook after Bosco defeated Loyola on Friday night. "[Orgeron] has been talking to me a lot the last couple of weeks, telling me to come out to his practices and games.

"It's been good, they've been in touch with me a lot."

Leniu is taking an official visit Sep. 21 to Washington State. The Cougars are his lone offer in the Pac-12. "They're supposed to surprise me, show me a lot of good things," Leniu said.

He admitted that though USC hasn't offered and are late to his recruitment, they'd be a legitimate option for him if an offer does come. "I'm just trying to keep it all open and be fair to everybody," he said.

The 6-foot-1 235-pound linebacker says the Trojans like his a nose for the ball as well as his ability to make reads and plays.

Leniu says he's also been hearing recently from BYU and Stanford, "They've been talking to me, keeping me updated," he said.

Other than his trip to Washington State, Leniu does not currently have any other visits scheduled.
