Jenkins, 72, has 45 years of coaching experience, most notably at Louisiana State and with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Orgeron calls Jenkins a good friend and an excellent defensive line coach. "I grew up learning defensive line technique under Pete at a young age," Orgeron explained. "No one is better at coaching it than Pete."
Orgeron, who first tried to bring former California head coach Jeff Tedford to USC to assist with the offense, admitted Tuesday he's got a lot on his plate. Jenkins was originally scheduled to visit USC as a consultant until Orgeron realized he needs an extra set of eyes. "After about a week of being the head coach, the d-line coach and the recruiting coordinator, and the guy in charge of discipline and this and that, I felt that I could use a hand," Orgeron said.
Paperwork is still pending and Jenkins is still not officially part of the USC staff, but Orgeron says he expects it to become official soon.
