Finally smiles for Bailey

USC safety Dion Bailey was unavailable to play in the first half of the Trojans 19-3 win over Utah on Saturday but took the field with his team after the break...

USC safety Dion Bailey was listed as a game time decision for Saturday's contest against Utah.

He did not suit up and take the field in the first half, knowing he needed to rest his turf toe, and being confident in the abilities of the other three safeties available: Demetrius Wright, Su'a Cravens, and Leon McQuay.

But when Cravens was sidelined for the remainder of the game with a strained groin after returning an interception 54 yards, Bailey made the decision to get on the field.

He implored defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast at halftime to let him suit, Pendergast giving him the go-ahead to get in the game if Bailey felt up to it.

The redshirt junior finished with just one tackle, but said as he limped off the field that he felt he owed to his team to get in to help in the 19-3 winning effort.
