USC interim head coach Ed Orgeron announced Tuesday after practice that outside linebacker Morgan Breslin, already ruled out for the season, underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia.

Breslin had been listed out due to a hip strain.

The senior was unable to play in USC's season opener at Hawaii. He's also been sidelined for five of the Trojans last six games.

Through 11 games, Breslin has only participated in five contests, which means there's a possibility he could gain a medical redshirt season.

Breslin's intentions on whether or not he wants to return to Troy remain unclear; the senior does not make himself available for interviews.

In 2012, Breslin recorded 62 tackles including a team-high 19.5 for a loss. He was selected to multiple All-American honorable mention lists.
