USC coaches recruiting current players

USC coaches game planning for UCLA, game planning to recruit current players to return for fourth and fifth years...

USC coaches aren't shying away from the recruiting process.

The recruiting process, that is, of convincing third and fourth year players with eligibility remaining to return to Troy for another season.

Asked Tuesday if he has already started to re-recruit his current players, USC interim head coach Ed Orgeron said "Mmm hmm, yeah, our juniors."

Here's what he says is his current pitch, "We don't know what's going to happen, let's finish the season, let's see what the outcome is going to be, let's go through the process."

There are 22 players on USC's two-deep who are eligible to enter this year's NFL draft (Including injured Lamar Dawson and Morgan Breslin, who could potentially receive a medical-redshirt year).

Orgeron says he plans to meet with players and their parents next week to see what the best situation is for each individual. "We'll go through the regular process of guys coming out early... we'll sit down and talk to them."

Receivers coach Tee Martin has one particular player he's been working on all season to return for his senior campaign: Marqise Lee.

Martin said he hasn't thought about Saturday being Lee's last game in the Coliseum, "We're proceeding as if he's coming back," Martin said, smiling. "I let him know he's needed, he's wanted here, and of course he has to make the best decision for himself."

Martin, who has now coached Lee for two seasons, said he believes there's a chance the 2012 Biletnikoff Award winner returns for his senior season.

Lee said after Tuesday's practice that he hasn't thought about Saturday's game as if it could be his last in front of the Trojan Family. "My main focus is trying to handle this game." Lee admitted that after the game, it could hit him that he may have played his last game in the Coliseum, depending on whether or not he makes himself available for this year's NFL draft. "I don't know what I'm going to decide," Lee said about his NFL future. "I haven't thought about it... I haven't talked to my mom and dad about it or nothing."

The other players on the Trojans two-deep who are eligible (non-seniors) to announce for this year's draft include center Marcus Martin, right guard Aundrey Walker, tight ends Xavier Grimble and Randall Telfer, quarterbacks Cody Kessler and Max Wittek, fullback Soma Vainuku, tailbacks Tre Madden and Buck Allen, punter Kris Albarado, kicker Andre Heidari, long snapper Peter McBride, nose tackle Antwaun Woods, defensive end George Uko, outside linebacker J.R. Tavai, linebackers Hayes Pullard and Anthony Sarao, cornerback Josh Shaw, and safety Dion Bailey.
