Orgeron resigns from USC

USC interim head coach Ed Orgeron submits letter of resignation...

A source told me within a couple of hours after the news broke that Steve Sarkisian was hired as USC's head coach that Ed Orgeron turned in his letter of resignation.

I was unable to confirm the news, however ESPN's Brett McMurphy has -- confirming that Orgeron has resigned USC and offensive coordinator Clay Helton will coach USC in its bowl game.

Orgeron took over after Lane Kiffin was fired following a 3-2 start to the 2013 season. Orgeron led USC to a 6-2 finish, including a win over No. 5 Stanford in the Coliseum.

His Trojans lost to USC rivals Notre Dame and UCLA.

Orgeron was considered by many former and current players, as well as many USC fans as the top choice to replace Kiffin permanently.
