UW to USC: Sark is getting his guys

USC head coach Steve Sarkisian is putting his staff together...

USC head coach Steve Sarkisian is getting his lining up his new staff.

Scout has confirmed the following additions:

Washington assistant head coach/special teams/running backs coach Johnny Nansen and Washington defensive backs coach Keith Heyward.

Sarkisian has already secured current USC receivers coach Tee Martin to remain on staff.

Scout national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins says the addition of Nansen to the Trojans staff will no doubt impact at least one top recruiting target.

"Nansen is an excellent recruiter, can coach multiple positions and just happens to be the uncle of one John 'Juju' Smith," Biggins said. "USC was already doing well with Smith but I was told if Nansen came over to USC, it would be a done deal for them from a LB Poly coach this week. And Smith is pretty good."

USC's previous staff did not have an exclusive defensive backs coach; defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast coached the position.

Heyward will coach the cornerbacks and safeties.

With the additions of Nansen and Heyward, the assumption at large is that current USC special teams coach John Baxter will not be retained on Sarkisian's staff, though Scout has not been able to confirm Baxter's status on the staff.
