Homecoming for Grimble

USC redshirt junior Xavier Grimble returns to his hometown for Saturday's Las Vegas Bowl against Fresno State...

USC safety Xavier Grimble was a Scout five-star recruit in 2010, graduating from Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman High School.

Grimble returned to his alma mater on Thursday, this time with his USC teammates. The Trojans practiced on Grimble's high school field for their final full workout of the 2013 season.

"This was the first time going back to my high school," he said.

The Trojans (9-3) play Saturday in the Las Vegas Bowl against Fresno State (11-1).

When the bowl game was announced Grimble said he was excited for the opportunity to return home to play in front of his family and friends.

"It's always been a dream of mine," Grimble said. "I'm happy to be able to go back. [The game] being in Vegas, probably one of the best things that could happen to me outside of going to the National Championship."

Widely considered NFL-ready, Grimble told SCPlaybook during bowl game practices he "plans to return" to USC for his redshirt senior season.

"With everything that happened to me this season," Grimble explained, "I think it would be best for me to stay in school."

The deadline for underclassman to declare is Jan. 15.
