Dorton, official visit was 'pretty good'

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco defensive end Malik Dorton recaps his official visit to USC and makes plans for the future...

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco defensive end Malik Dorton took his official visit to USC over the weekend and told SCPlaybook on Monday that he is shutting down his recruitment.

"I've canceled my other officials," Dorton said.

He committed to the Trojans at the end of August, but took an official visit to Oklahoma in Oct. He was also considering visits to Washington and Arizona State.

"My official visit to USC went pretty good," Dorton explained. "We toured campus, had some good dinners, and I met academic people."

Freshman tailback Ty Isaac was Dorton's host. Dorton said he's gotten to know Isaac through his multiple unofficial visits to campus.

The three-star defensive end met with coach Steve Sarkisian, who will also visit Dorton in-home later in the week.

He also sat down with new defensive line coach Chris Wilson to discuss his future role in the program.

"[Wilson] was just saying he saw my film and he told me where he could see me playing… coming off the edge," Dorton said.

Also on an official visit over the weekend was Dorton's high school teammate Damien Mama. Mama, the No. 1 offensive guard in 2014, will announce his college decision on Feb. 5, National Signing Day.

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly five-star safety Juju Smith was also at USC for a visit. Smith will be making his announcement on signing day, as well.

"We all had a great talk," Dorton said. "I talked to them about coming, so we'll see."
